In terms of sheer dominion over one’s division, powerlifter Amanda Lawrence might have an iron vice grip on the International Power Federation’s (IPF) raw 84-kilogram category: The athlete’s latest strength feat suggests she’s about to tighten her hold on the entire weight class.

On Mar. 15, 2023, Lawrence shared an Instagram clip of herself capturing a 254.9-kilogram (562-pound) raw back squat during a training session. The powerlifter utilized a lifting belt, wrist wraps, and knee sleeves for the squat. According to the IPF’s official database, Lawrence’s display of leg power is unofficially 11.5 kilograms (25.3 pounds) more than the current raw IPF World Record for the 84-kilogram class.

Lawrence holds that mark as well with a squat of 243.5 kilograms (536.8 pounds) from the 2021 IPF World Classic Powerlifting Championships.

More from Breaking Muscle:

Lawrence’s unofficial teaser record squat is undoubtedly connected to her preparation for the 2023 IPF Sheffield Powerlifting Championships on Mar. 25, 2023, in Sheffield, England. Given that the Sheffield Championships are under the IPF’s jurisdiction, Lawrence would extend her own IPF record if she matched (or beat) the existing record.

“Dangerous territory. 11 days out, I’m ready to fight.”

The IPF 84-kilogram World Champion in three out of the last four years, Lawrence will be making her Sheffield Championships debut at this iteration of the competition.

In addition to her squat, here’s an overview of Lawrence’s complete raw IPF World Record catalog:

Amanda Lawrence (84KG) | IPF World Records

  • Squat — 254.9 kilograms (562 pounds)
  • Deadlift — 260.5 kilograms (574.3 pounds)
  • Total — 636.5 kilograms (1,403.2 pounds)

Lawrence possesses the second-heaviest raw squat of all-time (255.9 kilograms/564.3 pounds) in the 90-kilogram weight class, per Open Powerlifting. Only Samantha Rice has a higher squat (257.7 kilograms/567.7 pounds) in the category.

At the same time, Lawrence also has the third-heaviest raw total ever (646 kilograms/1,424.4 pounds). Only Rice (687.4 kilograms/1,515.6 pounds) and Chakera Ingram (671 kilograms/1,479.3 pounds) have higher raw totals.

More from Breaking Muscle:

Lawrence bagging a victory at the 2023 Sheffield Championships would mark her ninth consecutive sanctioned competition win. Potentially extending her own record milestone would be a perfect cherry on top of such an achievement.
